This is Kathey Raskin of Las Vegas, and I’d like to welcome you back to Kathey Jo’s Kitchen. Self-care is an important topic here. Sometimes, it feels like there’s not enough time to get everything done. Everyone has a breaking point. Someone pulls that last thread of patience, and then the world falls apart, and you feel like there’s no coming back. It’s important that you take care of you and your needs. You should consider scheduling some downtime, and using ingredients right in your own home, for your very own all-natural spa day. I have made some recommendations below, but as always, if you have a good recipe or tip to share, post it below, and share it with the rest of the Kathey Jo’s Kitchen family.
Fruits and Vegetables
- Banana hair treatment: Smash 1 full banana and half an avocado on your damp hair for 30 minutes before washing it away and styling as usual.
- Oranges for exfoliation: Cut an orange into wedges, and bring them into the shower with you. Cleanse yourself as usual, and before you hop out, squeeze the juice onto each part of your body. Take the time to really massage it in.
- Potato face mask: Mix equal parts of uncooked potato, and loose-leaf tea (or leaves that have been removed from a tea bag) with 1/3 olive oil. Leave on for about 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water, and moisturize.
Everything Else
- Coconut milk for dull hair: Mix half a can of coconut milk with a medium-sized avocado. Comb through your dry hair, and let sit for 20 minutes before washing.
- Reduce eye puffiness: Brew caffeinated tea with tea bags. Let them cool, and place them on the tender skin beneath your eyes. To intensify the effects, chill them in the fridge. The cold will also help reduce swelling. Don’t forget to drink the tea when all is said and done!
- Sugar scrub: Mix 2 ounces of brown sugar, and 2 ounces of sesame or olive oil. Massage onto your skin during your shower, and wash away as usual. Add 15 drops of your favorite essential oil for the benefits of aromatherapy.
