Haunted Treats: Halloween Goodies

It’s October, and you know what that means. Halloween is one of our favorite holidays at Kathey Jo’s Kitchen. The colors, flavors, and spooky fun is something we look forward to every year. I’m sure you do too. Pumpkin-flavored everything seems to be the fallback for most people, but we like to push the envelope when it comes to the goodies served at Halloween parties.

Consider bat shaped finger foods, frozen witch’s hands in your punch bowl, or mouse-shaped cheeseballs. Your partygoers can get into the mood when your table is spread with Halloween-inspired treats. Today, I’m going to share a few with you, but tell the rest of Kathey Jo’s Kitchen what your go-to Halloween recipes are below!

Bloody Fingers

Prep: 15 m / Ready in 15 m

  • 2 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups powdered milk
  • 2 cups honey
  • 1 package of pretzel rods
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds, or as needed
  • 1/4 cup plum jam, or as needed

  1. Make the flesh: combine peanut butter, powdered milk, and honey in a bowl until mixture resembles a soft dough.
  2. Create the bones: mold the flesh dough around each pretzel rod, making sure to cover the ends.
  3. Shape the knuckles: use the tip of a teaspoon the make marks on the flesh to resemble knuckles on a finger.
  4. Pop your nails in: push 1 sliced almond onto each finger.
  5. Dispense the blood: put plum jam in microwave-safe bowl and heat in microwave for about 20 to 30 seconds. Dip ‘finger nail’ into the jam for the ‘blood’.

Brand New Eyes

Prep in 15 m / Ready in 15 m

  • 12 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and cut in half
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise, or as needed
  • Red food coloring as needed in separate bowl
  • Blue food coloring as needed in separate bowl
  • Black food coloring as needed in separate bowl
  1. Place each egg, cut-side down, into a muffin cup paper liner.
  2. Spoon mayonnaise into a resealable plastic bag; snip 1 of the corners of the bag. Pipe mayonnaise through the opening around the base of each egg half.
  3. Dip a clean, sterile small-tip, food grade paintbrush into the red coloring and paint small lines onto each egg to represent veins. Feel free to get some of the red in the mayonnaise. Rinse the brush.
  4. Make a blue circle in the middle of each egg to represent the iris. Rinse the brush.
  5. Paint a black ring around the iris and put a dot of black in the middle of the iris for the pupil.
