Feats of Food and Creative Uses for our Fuel

Most people know about the common use of food, eating it. But some people have decided to think outside of the box, including making edible glitter and paints to make food more interesting. You have probably seen examples of multiple different options for food. Many designers have put their efforts into making clothes that are beautiful to look at and even edible. There are design competitions specifically for these creations from chocolate dresses to the simple television shows where even children can compete to make astounding creations.  I’m Kathey Raskin, and I’d like to tell you about some of the more incredible examples of feats of food along with some of my favorites.

Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress

So spectacular that it has its own Wikipedia page, this feat of fashion astounding attendees and viewers alike at the2010 MTV Video Music Awards. It was designed by Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti. It created quite the stir being condemned by animal rights groups and was named by Time magazine as the top fashion statement of the year. It was archived, but went on display in 2011 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after being preserved by taxidermists as a type of jerky. Gaga explained following the awards ceremony that the dress was a statement about one’s need to fight for what one believes in, and highlighted her distaste for the US military’s don’t-ask-don’t-tell policy, later repealed in September of 2011.

International Chocolate Awards

From Dubai to Seoul, you can find the art of chocolate alive and well. There are live performances, competitions and award ceremonies as well as conferences throughout the events worldwide. If you are interested in the processes that go into it, you will be able to see the making first hand. As a kid you can see strange and scrumptious pairings, edible beard making, and literary inspired treats and tastings. There are small plates’ bars, where each dish contains the fruit in innovative and unique ways. It is not-to-be-missed for professionals and chocolate lovers alike.
